You are about to have your best year yet, YOUR SENIOR YEAR. You made it. That is a huge accomplishment and this should be an exciting time for you. Part of the excitement and senior year experience includes getting senior photos taken. 

As an Idaho Senior Photographer I have some tips to help you style your outfits for your senior session. It's important to be yourself, incorporate your own style and put your best face forward. 

• Mix and match textures and fits

   Wear complimentary fitting clothes. Avoid baggy and wrinkled clothes. You feel better. You look better. Don't wear clothes that are too tight and don't feel comfortable. Mix different textures and layers. Jessie wore a lace cardigan matched with a fitted black tank top. The lacy cardigan had beautiful embroidery details that added such beauty in the photos. Boys could wear a long sleeve flannel or plaid with a solid color vest. Don't be afraid to try new things and mix up your wardrobe.

• Wear complimentary colors

   Try to wear colors that are more complimentary to your skin tone and hair color along with the weather. Don't wear a plain white shirt during a snow session. In the winter wear a green with navy blue in the fall wear a darker red and creams. Avoid neon and reflective colors. Don't wear all one color, mix and match colors together, don't be afraid to wear color!

• Don't skimp out on the shoes

   I know you are focusing on the outfit so much but . . . the shoes will make or break your shots. Try to avoid sneakers with every shot. Wear boots. I loved Sophia's knee high boots. Wear sandals, wedges anything but old worn out tennis shoes. You'd be surprised how confident you would feel in high heels. BUT high heels aren't required. Just don't forget about your feet.

• Show off who you are 

    The best photos are where YOU ARE COMFORTABLE. Yes, comfortable. Wear what you want! Wear your style! Don't hold back. These photos are to show who you are. When you are wearing something you don't normally wear and like in general, you will be able to see how uncomfortable and awkward you feel in the photos. Be you.

• Show off your school spirit

    Have a favorite sport that you want to incorporate? Choose a jersey, bring along your letterman jacket, a ball, shoes, or any medals or trophies you have. Depending on your sport of choice you can potentially photograph other places. A football field, bleachers, under a score board, or maybe under the school's announcement board - there are so many possibilities with your sport. I see a lot of orange and black living in Salmon. I photograph quite a few Salmon Junior-Senior High School seniors and encourage them to bring their school spirit.

• Amp up your look but don't go overboard

   When it comes to makeup, photography tends to wash your face out so it's all about amping up your look and defining your features. You can amp up your look with false eyelashes. Make sure you practice first so your eyelashes stay put throughout the session. Make sure you define your eyebrows and choose the right eyeshadow color. Bake your face and make sure your foundation stays in place. My two biggest suggestions is DEFINE YOUR FACE and your probably want a DARKER lipstick. Define your facial features by contouring your cheekbones and nose. And skip the nude lipstick, it will wash you out, reach for the darker lipstick!
