I truly cannot believe Maddie is a senior this year.
It feels like not that long ago we were just taking some “school portraits” and now here we are taking her official senior portraits. And before we know it, she will be putting on a cap and gown and getting ready for that next big chapter. How does time do that so fast?
Maddie’s senior session was exactly what I love about photographing seniors here in Salmon, Idaho. She wanted a mix of river and field, so that is exactly what we did. We had the prettiest open field, a little patch of “flowers” they were probably weeds, but they photographed beautifully and the perfect river spot to end the evening.
I will admit, I was a little disappointed when we realized we were not going to get much sun. I am always chasing that golden light, especially for senior sessions, but this evening ended up working out so perfectly. The softer light gave everything this dreamy, calm feel, especially in the field. It made the colors feel soft and pretty and gave Maddie’s photos such a sweet, natural look.
And then came the river.
Yes, we both made our way into the water. Yes, it was cold. Yes, we almost fell. But we did not, so I am calling that a win. Those are the moments that make sessions so much fun. Senior photos should feel like you, and Maddie’s session was full of laughter, movement and a little bit of adventure.
I have photographed Maddie quite a few times now, and every session with her feels easy and fun. We are always laughing, and at this point, she knows her favorite angles. I love that. There is something so special about getting to photograph someone through different seasons of life and then getting to be part of their senior year.
As a Salmon Idaho Photographer, these are the kinds of sessions that remind me why I love what I do. We do not need a huge city, a perfect sunset, or some overly styled location to create beautiful senior photos. Sometimes all we need is a field, a river, a little patch of “flowers,” and a senior who is ready to have fun.
Maddie, I am so excited for you and this year ahead. I cannot wait to see all the amazing things you do next.
