Summer Photography Sessions: How to Make the Most of Your Time with a Salmon Idaho Photographer

Summertime is here, the day are longer, the sun is shining brighter, and it’s the perfect time for capturing beautiful family moments. As an Idaho Family Photographer, I know a little preparation can go a long way in ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience. If you are planning a session with Bellanet Photography this summer here are my top five tips for preparing your family for a summer photography session.

1. Prep the Kids

Getting children excited about the upcoming photography session is crucial. Talk to them about the fun they will have playing games and taking photos. If your session with Bellanet Photography is scheduled later in the day, consider having the entire family take a nap beforehand. A well-rested family is much more likely to enjoy the session and cooperate. Don’t forget to feed everyone before you head out. Promising food later doesn’t always work, especially with little ones. A full belly means happier kids.

2. Stay Hydrated

Summer sessions mean dealing with hot and sometimes muggy weather, which can make taking family photos more challenging. Hydration is key. Make sure everyone drinks plenty of water before the session. Have a bathroom break just before you leave or as soon as you arrive at the location. Bringing along water bottles and small, quick snacks can also be helpful. Just avoid anything that melts easily or takes too long to eat.

3. Plan the Day

Minimizing stress on the day of your session with Bellanet Photography is essential. Plan outfits ahead of time and avoid scheduling your session immediately after work or other commitments that might leave you feeling rushed. If you plan on taking a nap mid-day, give yourself ample time to get ready afterwards. The less rushed you feel, the more relaxed and enjoyable your session will be.

4. Bug Spray is a Must

One thing I often forget is bug spray, but it's incredibly important. Summer evenings, when most sessions take place, can be swarming with bugs and mosquitoes. Not only are they a nuisance, but they can also leave you with itchy welts. I’ve even had to photoshop bugs off people’s faces before. Bring along bug spray and tick repellent to keep everyone comfortable and focused on enjoying the session, rather than swatting at insects.

5. Be Comfortable

Comfort is paramount when it comes to a successful family photography session. Wear outfits that are not only stylish but also comfortable and appropriate for the weather. Flowy dresses and light fabrics are great choices for staying cool. The same goes for the kids—dress them in comfortable, breathable clothes. Overheating can make the session uncomfortable, so aim for attire that keeps everyone cool and happy.

Additional Tips for a Great Session

I offer a client closet filled with a variety of dresses available for clients to borrow. This can save you the hassle of finding the perfect outfit and ensures you have something comfortable and stylish to wear. Ask about adding to the client closet discount for more options.

Planning and preparation can make all the difference in your summer family photo session. By following these tips, you can ensure a smoother experience, resulting in beautiful and memorable photos.
