There is just something about spring senior sessions that feels extra special, and Shayleigh’s session was one of those evenings that reminded me exactly why I love photographing seniors so much. We absolutely lucked out with one of those beautiful sunny spring days, and it could not have worked more in our favor. The sunshine, warmer weather, and fresh spring feel gave us the perfect backdrop for a session that felt so her.
Senior sessions are always about more than just taking photos. They are about capturing who someone is during such a big season of life. Senior year is exciting, emotional, full of change, and a little bittersweet. That is why I always encourage seniors to bring things that represent them, their personality, and the things they love. Shayleigh did exactly that, and it made her session even more meaningful.
One thing that was very clear right away, Shayleigh absolutely LOVES flowers. She brought flowers along with her to incorporate into her senior photos, and I am so glad she did because they fit the spring vibe perfectly. They added such a soft, fun, and personal touch to the session. I always tell my seniors that the little details matter because these are your photos. Years from now, I want you to look back and remember what made you, you during this season of life.
Another thing that made Shayleigh’s session unique was incorporating some of the jewelry she made herself. For her senior project, she did silversmithing, which is such a cool and creative skill. We made sure to include pieces of her jewelry throughout the session because it represents such a huge accomplishment and something she truly enjoys. I absolutely love when seniors bring hobbies, sports, passions, or projects into their photos because it tells a bigger story than just smiling at the camera. Whether it is horses, sports equipment, instruments, art, or in Shayleigh’s case, handcrafted jewelry and flowers, those personal touches make senior sessions feel so authentic.
And because the weather was on our side, we even got to have some fun with a few sun-soaked photos. If you know me, you know I am always down to lean into the moment and create something fun and memorable when the opportunity presents itself. The sunshine made everything glow, and those playful moments ended up being some of my favorite parts of the session. Sometimes the unplanned moments end up becoming the best memories.
Shayleigh also brought along her cap and gown, which I always love seeing incorporated into senior sessions. There is something really special about documenting this huge milestone while celebrating everything seniors have worked so hard for. The cap and gown photos always add such a meaningful touch and really make it feel like, wow… this chapter is ending and a new one is beginning.
Can we also talk about outfits for a second? Shayleigh absolutely nailed them. She brought such a great variety, which always helps create a well-rounded gallery. Between jeans and flowy tops, along with a dress, we were able to capture several different looks and vibes throughout the session. I always encourage seniors to mix casual outfits with something a little dressier because it gives so much variety to your final images, and Shayleigh’s choices were the perfect balance.
One of my favorite things about this session though was honestly just her energy. Shayleigh giggled pretty much the whole time, and it made the session so much fun. Those genuine laughs, little smiles, and candid moments are always my favorite because they tell the real story. When seniors relax and just have fun, the photos always feel more natural, and honestly, it makes my job so much easier too.
Shayleigh, thank you for trusting me to capture such a special season of life. Your creativity, sweet personality, and love for all the little details made this session such a blast. I am so excited for everything ahead of you and cannot wait to see where life takes you after graduation.
