Technology has really grown over the years. When I was a senior in high school, I barely had a cell phone and it certainly didn't have a camera yet. It did have that snake game though. Who else played that on their Nikon? 

Nowadays it is so easy to snap a photo of yourself and post it. My friends and I used take photos on disposable cameras and get them developed at Saveway. Having a camera with you nearly 24/7 has really allowed a lot of teens to practice their posing and their "faces." And let's be honest some of your Instagram feeds are really beautiful. 

But while it is super easy to take a photo, save it, post it whatever you do - professional senior portraits are still important. You still need high quality senior portraits, and some photos you can't take yourself.

If you ask your mom or dad what their senior portraits were like or even your older siblings they may tell you they went to a photography studio and have more of a headshot session. They wore a nice shirt or sweater or even wore even their cap and gown. Either way they were professional looking. 

Now in 2021, teens can utilize their senior portraits in a new way. 

It is one of the best ways to express your own individual style and personalities. This comes in so many different forms for teens. It can be wardrobe choices, sports, locations - anything really.

I have taken photos of senior athletes with their letterman jacket and earned medals. 
I have taken photos of a senior at a special location to her family. 
I have taken photos of a senior who wanted to focus on outfits and style. 
I have taken photos of seniors in arcades, on top of mountains, on bleachers, with a car . . . . the list goes on and on.

Why Are Senior Portraits Such A Big Deal?

Senior year of high school marks a lot of milestones. For a lot of teens this is their last year at home with their parents. This time separates a lot of friends who have grown up together. You may be going somewhere new, somewhere unknown to you otherwise and the future really is amazing! 

This last year of high school is it and why not commemorate everything you have accomplished in your life so far, celebrate who you are and have become. 

These photos are more than just a photo for your mom's frame on the wall. These represent you and everything that makes you - you. These are a big deal because YOU are important.
